The City of New Bern is partnering with two local organizations to host September 11th memorial events.
The first one is Saturday, September 7th at approximately 7:30pm. New Bern Fire-Rescue and the Craven County Fireman’s Association are partnering to host the 9/11 Silent Memorial Parade. It will begin with a lineup of first responder vehicles in Bridgeton, representing departments from across the region. The parade will head west in silent procession over the twin span bridge and into downtown New Bern via East Front Street. The route then turns left (west) onto Broad Street at the traffic circle. The parade ends at First & Broad streets. The public is encouraged to line the parade route along the 200-300 blocks of E. Front Street or the 200-1200 blocks of Broad Street to watch the parade.
The second event is Wednesday, September 11th at 8:30am. The New Bern Police and Fire-Rescue departments are partnering with the New Bern Firemen’s Museum to host a 9/11 memorial event at Memorial Park, 420 Broad Street (next to the museum). The event will include a wreath-laying and special remarks. The public is welcome to attend as we remember the victims of the September 11th attacks, honor the first responders, and encourage ongoing community resiliency and healing.
Both events will last approximately 30 minutes. Motorists should be mindful of increased traffic and pedestrians coinciding with each event. Please slow down and exercise caution as you make your way through downtown or find another route to your destination.
Please join us for these September 11th memorial events.
